Newsletter: Nov. 2009

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! Were you one of of the estimated 36 million+ trick-or-treaters?

November has several holidays that we observe:
Nov. 11th is Veterans Day: a national holiday in honor of military veterans.
It is also called Armistice Day to commemorate the end of WWI.
The 4th Thursday in Nov. is Thanksgiving Day: an annual celebration feast
originating from the pilgrims.
The day after Thanksgiving is called "Black Friday" - be sure to plan ahead
to take advantage of the best shopping deals of the year!

Welcome New Au Pair Arrivals
We have one new au pair arriving this month: Gaby will be joining
us on the 19th from Paraguay. Be sure to make her feel welcome
when she arrives!

Let's See a Play

Au Pairs: I've heard that you haven't had an October meeting! Since we're getting close to Halloween, I thought it would be fun to do something spooky-ish. I'm not a big fan of horror movies and things like that, but good ol' monster stories can be fun. Are you familiar with the story of Frankenstein? There's a live production of Mary Shelley's famous book at the Renaissance Theater in Huntsville. Let's plan on seeing the 2:30pm performance on Sunday 10/25. This will give us time to either meet before hand or go somewhere afterwards to get to know each other. I'll email you again later this week with a meeting time after I find out what time the theater opens its doors. Please let me know by Tuesday afternoon at the latest whether you will be able to come on Sunday afternoon! It's a small theater and I'll need to make reservations. Also tell me if you'd prefer to meet before the play or if you'll have more time afterwards (or if you don't have a preference!) If most of you can't make it on Sunday, there are performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (both this week and next) at 8pm. Please tell me if one of those would be better. I've included the theater location and website and some additional information about the play at the bottom of this email.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!!

New Area Director

Hello Everyone!!
I am very excited to be your new Area Director! I know Laura already gave you my contact information, but I’d also like to tell you a little bit about myself. My family and I recently moved to Huntsville from Nashville, TN. My husband, Curtis, and I have one son, Zachary, who is 2 and are expecting our 2nd son next month. Originally from California, Curtis and I both graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. During my time at Tulane I spent a year in Paris, France studying at La Sorbonne. I am fluent in French and have some knowledge of German. In my free time I enjoy hiking, needlework, and reading. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or just want to say hi! I hope to meet all of you soon!
